Affordable Housing

This program is great for you if you want to manage independently in your own home. We offer month to month apartment living at an affordable rental rate set at 10% below market.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I'm turning 65 next year can I apply for Lodge Accomodation?

You must be 65 to apply for a lodge program. For couples at least one person has to be 65 years. In certain circumstances we have accepted applications for just below 65 years of age.

How much is the rent, and do I qualify for subsidy?

As per legislation, income is taken from your Line 150 of your current Notice of Assessment. Based on that your income will be tested to see if you qualify. Rental rates are reviewed on an annual basis.

How long is the waiting list?

Our current waiting list is within a few months, but you may receive a phone call as soon as the assessment is completed. If you only want a specific Lodge, you may have to wait a little longer. Priority is given to applicants based on their higher housing needs.

Do you provide medical assistance at your lodges?

Seniors living at BCL must be able to manage their independence and physically able to maintain normal day-to-day functions – (going from room to dining room, ability to get in and out of bed, ability to interact socially). Homecare services from Alberta Health Services are provided at the Lodge for most of our residents requiring extra services or assistance.

What is the application process?
  • First you will need to apply either by picking up an application form from the Office or any of our Lodge locations or online.
  • Complete application – one section is family details , the other will require a doctors assessment done
  • Submit the application
  • An interview by a Lodge Manager or Housing Team is scheduled to determine your level of housing support
  • Housing will then be approved
  • Move in date is arranged
Do you provide meals and housekeeping?

Meals are provided at the lodge level of accommodation at no extra cost. All meals are approved by a registered Dietician and meets nutritional requirements of eating well based on the Canada Food Guide. All meals are posted in advance. 

Housekeeping is provided at all lodges at no cost. Resident rooms are cleaned on a weekly basis. We do ask residents to keep their rooms hygienic and uncluttered. Room inspections do occur to ensure a high standard of cleanliness is in place.

Why I Love Living Here

I have lived at Piper Creek Lodge for ten years. I have gotten to know many friends and join in most of the organized activities. I was elected President of the Resident Council in 2014 and retired from that position in 2018. I will celebrate my 92nd birthday in 2018 and still enjoy my life at Piper Creek Lodge.
