Quick Facts About
Bridges Community Living

More than 600 seniors in Red Deer call Bridges Community Living (BCL) home. With its long-time roots providing lodge style living, BCL now also provides subsidized and near-market apartments, serving about 6% of Red Deer’s low-income seniors’ population. While most seniors do not need medically supported housing, every senior deserves safe, comfortable housing in a price range that fits their budget. Every senior deserves the right to choose the type of living arrangement that meets their needs. Whether those needs include access to more social opportunities or support with housekeeping or meals, BCL works with each resident to ensure that their needs are met, and they can live a quality, independent lifestyle for as long as possible.

I found some interesting facts about seniors in our community.  I am so glad that BCL is taking these issues seriously and is creating awareness about the situation of seniors in our community.

Did you know that:

  • We have over 11,086 seniors in Red Deer (City of Red Deer census, 2016)
  • Over 1400 seniors have an income below $30,000
  • The average rent in Red Deer has gone up by 35% in the last 10 years

  • 38% of Red Deerians spent more than 30% of their income on rent

Why I Love Working Here

‘We work for chocolate and hugs.’ That’s a joke we always make because our residents love to share their appreciation for our work with sweets and hugs. We love the residents, they are a lot of fun to be around with and they have so much to share. We laugh a lot here.
